| a coworker of mine said his valves had an intimate encounter with his pistons when his timing belt snapped, then complained about "cheap POS Saturns that still make interference engines". It made me wonder, why are certain motors (like ours for example) designed in such a way that they auto-destruct if the timing belt fails? Are there any advantages to designing interference engines?
